Via Riyadh, with its luxurious hotel, upscale shops, and vibrant public areas, is the perfect stage for an immersive visual spectacle. Barco's advanced projection technology has transformed this venue into a captivating destination, drawing visitors for more than just shopping and dining.
The heart of this project is a projection-mapped installation that brings the mall and hotel facades to life, turning them into vibrant storytelling backdrops. But here's where it gets controversial... This installation had to respect the site's unique architecture, especially its striking arch-shaped buildings, which presented both a challenge and an opportunity.
The project team faced unique hurdles, including the need to install the projection equipment at heights of 20 to 24 meters while the venue remained fully operational, all within a tight timeframe. And this is the part most people miss... The team had to strike a delicate balance, enhancing the beauty of the architecture without overwhelming it.
To ensure a smooth process, Barco partnered with Martin Professional Middle East, their trusted distribution expert. This local partnership was crucial for timely delivery and integration of the projection systems, despite changing requirements.
The team chose the Barco UDX-4K40 projector for its ultra-bright, crisp 4K visuals and robust reliability, even in challenging conditions. A total of 35 units were deployed to create a dynamic visual experience at Via Riyadh.
A dedicated control room was built on the rooftop, complete with an air conditioning system to maintain optimal equipment performance. Barco's Pulse software suite, including the Pulse Toolset, Prospector, and Mobile App, streamlined the workflow, making setup and calibration a breeze.
The transition to the Pulse Toolset was a significant upgrade, linking all Barco Pulse-based projectors to a centralized network. This enabled seamless projector alignment and efficient management of the complex multi-building setup. The Pulse Mobile App further enhanced this experience, allowing for easy adjustments on the go.
Mohammad Hamdan, AV engineer at Martin Professional ME, raves about the Pulse setup tools, citing a 38% reduction in setup time compared to the previous Projector Toolset. He credits the intuitive interface and smart alignment features for allowing the team to focus on creativity rather than troubleshooting.
Completed in March 2023, the installation has become a signature feature of Via Riyadh. Visitors are drawn to the emotion and energy of the projection mapping, creating a unique and immersive experience. The project exceeded expectations, with the client noting that the buildings now seem alive, pulsating with light, color, and energy.
