The truck driver, feeling threatened by Sanchez's approach, resorted to pepper spray in an attempt to defend himself, exclaiming that he feared for his life, saying, "this guy is trying to kill me."

The driver later recounted being forcefully pushed against a dumpster, feeling he was in a dire situation that endangered his life. Sanchez’s arrest, executed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, occurred at a hospital where he was taken for treatment of multiple stab wounds. The truck driver likewise required medical attention for a laceration on his cheek, as noted in the legal documents. Sanchez reportedly had little recollection of the events, stating that he remembered only reaching for a window and did not know who had attacked him.
